The Hands of Nature
Pastoralism has given us abundant gifts and pastoralist practices and cultures have fuelled many other economies, such as agriculture, animal husbandry, and crafts.
Many crafting traditions have sprung from pasturelands across the world. The light and mobile lives of pastoralists and their animals have gifted us with a wealth of colours, dyes, yarns, techniques, materials, tastes and textures. Come, follow the herder on this walk. These shoes, the bells and sticks will unravel stories of deep ties between pastoralism and crafts. The exhibits you will discover here are not just beautiful craft objects but signposts of an enduring relationship between Maldhari and artisan communities – in the Kachchh region.
