An Immersion in the Poetry & Music of the Herders of Kutch
Artwork, songs, sounds, ideas and poetry come together in this exhibit to create a contemplative immersion in the poetic, philosophic and musical universe of the pastoral communities of Kutch. All elements – mountain, desert, sky, monsoon, wind or river – begin to reverberate with hidden meanings. The poetry of Shah Latif, Mekan Dada, Kabir, Mirabai and other local poets comes alive through songs curated and recorded from the oral traditions of Kutch by Shabnam Virmani and Vipul Rikhi, with art by Roy Varghese.
Dec 2-19 – 10 till 8 pm daily

Sindhi Sufi poet Shah Latif Bhitai – deeply loved by the pastoralists of Kutch and Sindh – spoke through the women of the famous love legends of the region – Sasui, Sohini, Marui and others – evoking moments from their stories as rich metaphors for humanity’s quest for meaning. The evening concerts will share songs and music by Kutchi musicians in diverse genres such as Kaafi and Waai, interspersed with stories and ideas from the poetry of Shah Latif, as well as from other poets.
