A three day academic conference is being organized to share existing research, initiate a discourse, and forge new directions for multi disciplinary research on pastoralism in India.
When: 8 – 10 December 2016 / Where: Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts, New Delhi, India
The conference is designed to serve as an exchange between researchers working on pastoral systems, from India and elsewhere. The conference also hopes to facilitate consolidation of findings and insights from existing and ongoing research on pastoralism in India, and develop an agenda for future research. In addition to regular paper presentations, the conference will consists of 5-7 panel discussions led by a keynote address followed by 3-4 speakers.
The panels will cover topics such as economic contribution of pastoral systems, indigenous knowledge and breeding systems, ecological dynamics of grasslands, technology and pastoralism, engagement with markets, engagement with the welfare state, and climate change.
This conference is convened by Ashwini Chhatre, Abi Vanak, and Vasant Saberwal.
